Early Warning Fire Detection Systems

An early warning fire detection system can make a huge difference in the size and manageability of a fire emergency. This has significant implications for building properties and occupant’s lives being saved. It is crucial to have proper early warning and detection systems installed to prevent devastation at a high level.

Fire detection systems are designed and positioned to asses and provide early warning about a potential fire emergency. This helps building occupants, giving them the opportunity to evacuate the building in time. Reducing the risk of death or injury. Firefighting can also be implemented at an early stage, preventing the further spread of the fire and causing for most of the building’s integrity and structure to be possibly saved as well.

There are a variety of ways of detection available to provide early warning in the case of a fire. These detection strategies typically include;

  • Spot-type smoke detectors, called smoke detectors. When properly installed, smoke detectors can detect smoke particles in the early stages of a fire in the regions where they are installed.

  • Heat or gas detectors. When they detect a higher-than-normal concentration of gas in the air, they issue a sequence of auditory beeps that are difficult to miss.

  • Linear heat detectors: Linear heat detection (LHD) is a popular fire detection technology. It's also known as linear detection wire, linear heat detection cable, or linear heat. It can detect a fire anywhere along the cable's length, which can be in excess of a kilometer.

  • Air-aspirating detectors. Smoke is usually detected by ASDs before it is detectable to the human eye.

  • Or a combination method thereof.

Proper risk-assessment with clear guidelines will help the right installation of a system for detection of the emergency-risk and problem.

Emergency procedures has to be set in place and thoroughly practiced and executed to ensure safe evacuation in a fire.
