Why it is important to maintain Smoke Ventilation Systems?

To ensure that your smoke ventilation systems function properly in emergency cases, maintenance will need to be an absolute priority. This may be one of the most critical, in fact, for without it, the system will fail to meet its expectation in emergency fire situations, and thereby endangering lives.

Everything has a breaking point; it is but a matter of time. And as such, one has to be mindful of how these smoke ventilation systems work and why they cannot be left un-kept.

That’s why it will be in your best interest to have regular equipment services done. After all, aside from your fire response system, a well-maintained smoke venting system will be your best defense against any loss you might potentially undergo.

To ensure safer buildings that meet regulation standards, a maintenance regime with a little more attention than just a functionality test would be needed. The system will need ongoing maintenance, involving thorough tests of all of the different parts of the smoke vent system including the fire alarm and/or smoke sensors.

Your smoke vent’s design might differ from others though the purpose thereof remains the same; to vent smoke, toxic fumes and heat out of the building as quickly as possible. To ensure that your building’s safety strategy works it is paramount to have it maintained regularly. The vents have many moving parts, and if they have not been operated in a long time, that can cause a seal to develop around the vents. This then hinders the vents from opening.

Without the smoke venting system working properly, the minute by minute rapidly increasing smoke will fill the building. This will then complicate any rescue procedures by firefighters and cause the fire to spread much more rapidly, resulting in more costly damage to the property and a higher risk of fatalities. It is actually the smoke inhalation, which is the leading cause of death in fire emergencies, that is an immediate threat to the occupants within the building. considering that smoke inhalation is the leading cause of death in fire emergencies.

Frequent inspections should also be done to identify issues before they progress into costly system failures. Receiving routine maintenance can also yield significant cost savings, because of the preventative upkeep the system will be allowed to run for longer and more efficiently. Smoke ventilation systems are installed in numerous different types of buildings, whether commercial or residential, they are crucial.

This proves that the risk of not having efficient and regular maintenance done is dire and not worth it and that the cost of paying for smoke vent systems being kept, completely worthwhile!
